Every page of the new site exists in English and Arabic. Before we build them, VIA chooses the Arabic faces that sit beside Marcellus and Source Sans 3.
Three pairings follow. All three are free under the SIL Open Font License and are hosted on the site itself. Each is set in the brand’s own scale, colours and components, next to the English it partners.
We recommend P1. Staging uses it until VIA decides.

El Messiri + IBM Plex Sans Arabic
Confident, warm, precise.
El Messiri’s flared, Naskh-informed terminals answer Marcellus and the calligraphic warmth p.21 asks of Mayrean, at the same stroke weight. IBM Plex Sans Arabic is a humanist sans that matches Source Sans 3 in size and colour, with a true SemiBold for labels and forms. The lightest of the three to load.

The most forward-thinking.
Reem Kufi is a geometric Kufi with an architectural, modern line: the most forward-thinking voice, and the furthest from Mayrean’s flared serif. Noto Sans Arabic is neutral and complete, but its single variable file is the heaviest here and takes a page that uses every face past the 250 KB font budget.

Markazi Text + Almarai
The most traditional and warm.
Markazi Text is a calligraphic Naskh drawn for reading: the warmest and most traditional voice. It is small on its body, so it carries a 125% optical size correction to stand level with Marcellus. Almarai is clean and modern but has no SemiBold; its Bold stands in for labels and emphasis.

Notes — For the review
How to read this, and how to approve
Sizes and digits
Scale sheets use the 1920 px layout of p.23. In-use sheets use the 1440 px scale; the phone sheet uses the 360 px scale. No size sits between levels. Figures stay Western digits in Montserrat in both languages.
Arabic line heights

Arabic letters rise and fall further than Latin ones. The Arabic values clear the tallest measured letterforms of all six faces, vowel marks included in body text, so choosing a pairing changes no line height.
The 56 px rule
p.21 sets the display face at 56 px and above; p.23 sets Subhead in it at 44 px, and on phones Heading and Subhead fall to 38 and 23 px. We follow p.23: the display face, and its Arabic partner, set Display, Heading and Subhead at every size. The phone sheets show each Arabic display face at its smallest use. VIA to confirm whether 56 px is a print minimum.

How VIA approves
Reply in writing with one pairing (P1, P2 or P3), your name and the date. We record it in the sign-off file, keep only that pairing’s fonts, and only then build the pages.
